July 2016: Organised by the Need for Nutrition Education/Innovation Programme (NNEdPro), The Mudra Academy of Performing Arts UK, and Physicians United for Child Health (PUNCH), ‘An Indian Summer’ is an evening of entertainment for the whole family held at Lee Hall, Wolfson College (University of Cambridge), Barton Road, Cambridge CB3 9BB
This event was organised to raise funds that will go towards health projects and charities in India. These include: A nutrition education project and the building of a nutrition education kitchen in the Urban Slums of Kolkata, and Essential paediatric equipment for the Institute of Child Health in Chennai.
Our Goal
The participants (namely young mothers) responded well to our action research and education intervention in Kolkata. They have now expressed the wish to lead by example within their community.
We are seeking to raise funds to establish a health promotion Teaching Kitchen for an urban slum in Kolkata (India). This will build capacity and support mothers with limited resources to achieve the best nutrition for their children.
The kitchen will also serve as a community hub for:
– Malnutrition screening/prevention – Health promotion – Disease prevention
