The project subsequently gained further support from the Medical Research Council (MRC), evolving into the Need for Nutrition Education/Innovation Programme (2011-15). Following incorporation in 2015, NNEdPro received additional support from Innovate UK and was restructured through the ‘Innovate to Succeed Programme’ at St John’s Innovation Centre in Cambridge to become the NNEdPro Global Centre for Nutrition and Health (2016-22), a multi-award-winning, interdisciplinary, and international think-tank. Since its inception, NNEdPro has received co-hosting support from the Cambridge Institute of Public Health (2008-10), the MRC Elsie Widdowson Laboratory (2010-18) and the British Dietetic Association (2008-22). Over this period, NNEdPro experienced extensive growth and finally restructured in July 2022 to become the NNEdPro Global Institute for Food, Nutrition and Health , a social enterprise incorporating the functions of an independent research organisation, education and training centre, and providing advisory services, all of which draw from an over 18-year track record of excellence in thought leadership. < Regional Networks page SCOTLAND OFFICE UK & Ireland Regional Network Our history and activities in Scotland On the 15th Anniversary of the NNEdPro Global Institute, a strategy office was established in Dundee, Scotland, to provide a base for Scottish operations, including strategic development of the UK MTK. The activities of NNEdPro in Scotland map to one of our Regional Networks , which specifically covers the UK and Ireland ; this Regional Network comprises 246 members, with 31 professionals based in Scotland. Our objectives in Scotland are multiple, ranging from stakeholder engagement to non-profit activities with positive impacts on the community, the general population, and vulnerable individuals. In the past years, we developed our activities and projects with Scotland in mind, starting from our flagship event in December 2025, our 11th International Summit, titled "Target 2030: Food and Nutrition Policy - From Human to Planetary Health", which welcomed more than 120 delegates from a worldwide audience. During the Summit, we had the opportunity to meet professionals, students, physicians, and other stakeholders from the Region with diverse perspectives on food, agriculture, health, and nutrition. As a post-summit event, we held the first edition of the Global Youth Essay Competition in collaboration with St Leonards School. On this occasion, we welcomed 21 young students and leaders (ages 13 to 19) from 4 countries. This opportunity highlighted the significant role the education ecosystem plays in Scotland, with an international breadth that constantly attracts thousands of students to the area. Furthermore, our initiative demonstrated the immense appeal of the Region and its capacity to foster global connections. This first edition is just the starting point of our initiatives and projects in the education field in Scotland. We intend to hold the second edition of the Global Youth Essay Competition at St Andrews University, with the involvement of the finalists from last year's edition and higher education students in the area. Our activities, projects and initiatives in Scotland date back to March 2019, when on 27th March 2019, we organised and held a workshop at the International Forum on Quality & Safety in Healthcare - 'Food, fluid and nutritional care as key drivers to improve healthcare outcomes: The Nutrition Education policy for Healthcare Practice Training Package' in Glasgow, Scotland . The Mobile Teaching Kitchen international (MTKi) held in November 2023, a culinary nutrition education workshop in Dundee, Scotland, in partnership with the Dundee and Angus College, where participants learned about different food groups, how to read food labels, and how to make healthy swaps in the recipes and the nutrient profiles for each dish. This workshop led to the development of the first 'preceptors' group within the UK. These preceptors would work with nutrition and culinary experts from the UK MTK team to subsequently train members of the public to become potential UK MTK champions. Partners In Scotland, we developed new synergies and evolved to connect with key stakeholders in the landscape. Currently, NNEdPro Global Institute has signed different types of partnerships and strategic collaborations with a wide range of partners in a variety of sectors and industries: Scottish Alliance for Food (SCAF) - LoI James Hutton Institute - MoU Rowett Institute - MoU St Andrews University Dundee Science Centre Dundee International Women's Centre Dundee and Angus College Angus Climate Hub St David's Centre North Fife St Leonards School University of Dundee - MoU Arbroath District Church of Scotland These partners are and have been instrumental in expressing NNEdPro's knowledge and expertise and in putting our 18 years of research and mission into practice for the community's benefit. These partnerships are tailored for different activities and projects with students, vulnerable persons, women, marginalised communities, families, chefs, medical practitioners and academia. We intend to expand this network of collaboration further to align with our mission and values for the benefit of the Scotland region, its communities, and its population. • Our Work | NNEdPro

Our aim is to improve nutrition-related health outcomes. our work how we work Our work comprises four overlapping verticals in nutrition and several cross-cutting horizontals. Projects Organogram Learn more about us We are an Independent Global Institute anchored in Cambridge (UK) and working across 10 regional networks involving members from over 80 countries. From 2008-2018, we were hosted by the Cambridge Institute of Public Health (supported by the NIHR School of Public Health 2008-10) and the Medical Research Council Elsie Widdowson Laboratory (supported by MRC Human Nutrition Research 2010-18) in partnership with the British Dietetic Association . With support from Innovate UK, we were incorporated as a Cambridge-based, research-intensive, independent non-profit ahead of our 10th Anniversary. We aim to improve food, nutrition, health, and sustainability outcomes by: promoting nutrition-sensitive microenterprises aimed at social equity; strengthening nutrition research at multiple levels; training professionals in clinical and public health nutrition, and influencing policymakers; providing nutrition and health-related advisory services to high-impact organisations. Our strategic plans have been aligned with the United Nations Decade of Action 2016-2025, following which we have successfully registered our strategic commitments for 2026-2030 with the Global Nutrition Report, in line with the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. As of 2026, we deliver our work through the following interrelated sections, as outlined below: SOCIAL ENTERPRISE, Global operations & impact Since 2017, we have supported the development of innovative social enterprise ventures intended to contribute to nutritional equity, population health, and community resilience, such as the multi-award-winning Mobile Teaching Kitchen International Initiative (MTKi) , which operates across multiple jurisdictions. Our work in this area has been supported extensively by UKRI Global and Grand Challenges awards operated through consortia led by the University of Cambridge. Since 2019, our Institute has operated as a non-profit social enterprise hosted at St John’s Innovation Centre , Cambridge, supported by Innovate UK, and our global operations bring together a vast array of professionals from across the six continents into a single delivery framework. Our pathways to impact include international policy dialogue, the development of global youth leaders and the recognition of excellence in communities of practice through annual awards. Learn More Research & innovation Since 2018, our research and innovation have supported the strategic development of our official journal, BMJ Nutrition, Prevention and Health (BMJ NPH) , which we co-founded and co-own with the BMJ Publishing Group, as well as supporting the development of other journals with which we have project partnerships, such as CABI Food and Nutrition Science Cases . Whilst a proportion of our research is published in journals we co-curate, our research has generated several hundred peer-reviewed papers/outputs over the years, published in a variety of journals and all indexed online. We also published quarterly in the Complete Nutrition (CN) Magazine, where research-led evidence can be communicated to over 20K nutrition practitioners who subscribe to CN. Since 2019, our Chief Scientist has been cross-appointed as a Full Research Professor in Global Nutrition, Health, and Disease (GNHD) within the framework of Ulster University , which is consistently ranked ‘Top in the UK for Food and Nutrition Science’. Our primary research and publications are fully aligned with the GNHD programme, and we regularly contribute outputs to the UK Research Excellence Framework. We run several hubs linked with GNHD: Data Science and Evidence Synthesis (including Dietary Assessment ); Human Interventions (including Nutrition and Vascular Function ); Educational and Development Studies ; and Doctoral Research Projects . Each hub has several interrelated active projects across themes, including cardiometabolic, cognitive, malnutrition risk, nutrition, and non-communicable disease prevention. In 2025, in the margins of COP30, the CREATE Centre for Population Health, Resilience and Sustainability was established within our research and innovation framework to tackle global challenges, with research looking at whole-systems approaches beyond food, nutrition and health. Learn More Since 2018, we have spearheaded the International Academy of Nutrition Educators (IANE) as a professional membership platform for the global community of interdisciplinary professionals involved in nutrition education and innovation. IANE provides high-quality, evidence-based resources, including accredited CPD/CME courses and webinars, as well as a career development framework linked with different levels of membership and associated postnominals. IANE also hosts a series of Special Interest Groups for members, and each is linked to a Special Collection. A flagship resource of IANE is the iKANN Nutrition Research Registry , which enables knowledge exchange on upcoming studies that inform the evidence base across food, nutrition, and health. IANE is complemented by a Virtual Learning Environment where we develop and host bespoke courses targeting different groups of professional learners. Additionally, we draw on educational content from a series of textbooks in the field, which we have edited/authored/co-authored, including Essentials of Nutrition in Medicine and Healthcare , as well as the nutrition content in Essential Lifestyle Medicine. For a decade, we have been running flagship educational offerings such as our internationally renowned Cambridge Summer School and Foundation Certificate in Applied Human Nutrition , accredited by professional bodies such as the Royal Society of Biology and the Royal College of Physicians , and endorsed by the University of Parma . We are also in year 12 of our annual International Summit on Food, Nutrition and Health , bringing together key opinion leaders from across six continents each year and determining next steps in applying scientific knowledge to society through education and training, as well as advocacy and policy. Each year, the Summit Poster Competition receives scientific abstracts, which are subsequently published along with the Summit Proceedings in our flagship journal, BMJ NPH. Both our Summer School and Summit are fully hybrid, enabling in-person or online participation from anywhere in the world. We advise and supervise several Doctoral Researchers and PhD candidates registered with academic partner institutions, including Ulster University and King's College London in the UK, as well as several universities internationally. To enable collective peer review and knowledge exchange, we regularly convene an active Graduate Studies Forum attended by members of our Virtual Core, including senior academic colleagues and early- to mid-career researchers from a variety of institutions worldwide. The Forum serves as a focal point for our global research capacity-building efforts in Food, Nutrition, and Health. Education & Training Learn More Since 2024, our external consulting has been offered primarily through Ray Advisory Services  , drawing on the collective expertise of the NNEdPro ecosystem and our Chief Scientist to provide a range of services, including clinical consulting through healthcare delivery partners. We regularly advise on a non-profit basis to government agencies, multilaterals, and third-sector organisations in the UK and internationally. We also undertake corporate consulting with industry, providing independent scientific expertise/advice around shared ethical goals for population benefit. consulting & Advisory Services Learn More Anchor 1 OUR VALUE PROPOSITION TO CORPORATE CLIENTS We can advance and accelerate food, nutrition, and health portfolios by enhancing quality, adding value, and enabling outreach to new audiences. key services Human Intervention Trial Design and Delivery: Expert advice on clinical trial strategies, designs and deliveries. • Regional Networks | NNEdPro

nnedpro-iane Regional Networks Good nutrition is at the foundation of good health. We see healthcare and public health practitioners as key knowledge brokers that can promote nutrition to achieve better public health. To do this, NNEdPro in collaboration with IANE convenes regional networks across six continents and currently has members in 80 countries. The Regional Networks are overseen by the Virtual Core . Please note: Membership in our Regional Networks is voluntary and based on where members are currently active. Network coverage may vary, and not all areas within a region may be represented. Click on parts of the map to read more about our regional networks. Australia & New Zealand Canada Europe India & South Asia Latin America Middle East & Central Asia Pan-Africa (including Morocco) South East & East Asia United Kingdom & Ireland United States IKANN25 CROSS-CUTTING THEMES / ACTIVITIES In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic over 2020-22, we supported the following survey initiatives across all regional networks: The Language of Communicating Nutrition and Impact (LOCNI) – this will involve the translation of our 10-point guide on nutrition and COVID-19 into multiple languages evaluating the added impact of using linguistically adapted nutrition education resources Global Food and Nutrition Insecurity Survey (GFNIS): To develop a global pandemic impact picture around agri-food and health systems, GFNIS involved a semi-qualitative assessment of acute food and nutrition insecurity due to COVID-19 through a sample survey of regional network members as advocates for nutrition and health. The abstract can be found here . COVID19 Microsite Nutrition & COVID19 Across regional networks, our Education and Training Centre facilitates: the Summer School in Applied Human Nutrition the annual International Summit on Food, Nutrition and Health the International Academy of Nutrition Educators (IANE) and E-learning initiatives. Cross-Cutting Network Themes: Nutrition Education for Healthcare Professionals Featured Example : The NEPHELP (Nutrition Education Policy for Health Practice) model seeks to change the default status of nutrition education within health systems by strengthening the nutrition workforce in each region. The original NEPHELP initiative was developed in the UK, while adaptations of NEPHELP are now envisioned across regional networks internationally. From 2025, this has been superseded by the GNOME initiative . Empowering Underserved Communities in Nutrition and Health Featured Example : The Mobile Teaching Kitchen (MTK) model seeks to empower marginalised community members to become culinary health educators by bringing together change drivers, from medical and nutritional personnel to lay volunteers and NGOs, all invested in reducing nutritional inequities for better health. The original MTK initiative was developed in India, with adaptations of the MTK are now planned across regional networks internationally. Responsible Science Communication for Health and Resilience Featured Example : Commencing in 2026, in collaboration with the Italian Embassy in London , we are co-creating and organising a series of scientific roundtable meetings to build consensus on the role of a ‘Scientific Forum for Advancement of Mediterranean Diet Knowledge for Human Health ’. This work will enable all partners to showcase their ongoing commitment and existing Mediterranean Diet and Food-related initiatives, highlighting the shared dedication to advancing knowledge in this critical area. Cross-cutting Network Activities: Encouraging interprofessional and interdisciplinary collaboration Development of research and innovation projects Raising awareness through advocacy campaigns Delivery of scientific webinars and presentations Delivery of education sessions
