Global Nutrition Observatory for Medical Education (GNOME) Initiative
Initiative managed by

The Global Nutrition Observatory for Medical Nutrition Education (GNOME) Initiative is the natural sequel to the successfully completed NEPHELP project (Nutrition Education Policy for Health Professionals), which developed, tested, and implemented nutrition education resources for doctors in hospitals and community settings.
While NEPHELP empowered healthcare professionals with practical tools and highlighted the urgent need for improved nutrition training in curricula, GNOME takes the next step by:
• Conducting annual surveys across NNEdPro’s 10 Regional Networks (over 1,000 members globally) to capture the state of medical nutrition education.
• Generating evidence to drive policy and curriculum change, led jointly by our US and UK & Ireland Regional Networks.
• Ensuring medical nutrition education remains a global priority, directly impacting healthcare workforce training and patient care.
GNOME is a hub for evidence generation, knowledge sharing, and capacity building, bridging gaps in nutrition training and fostering a new generation of healthcare professionals ready to tackle global nutrition challenges.
