Our history and activities in Scotland

On the 15th Anniversary of the NNEdPro Global Institute, a strategy office was established in Dundee, Scotland, to provide a base for Scottish operations, including strategic development of the UK MTK. The activities of NNEdPro in Scotland map to one of our Regional Networks, which specifically covers the UK and Ireland; this Regional Network comprises 246 members, with 31 professionals based in Scotland.

Our objectives in Scotland are multiple, ranging from stakeholder engagement to non-profit activities with positive impacts on the community, the general population, and vulnerable individuals. In the past years, we developed our activities and projects with Scotland in mind, starting from our flagship event in December 2025, our 11th International Summit, titled "Target 2030: Food and Nutrition Policy - From Human to Planetary Health", which welcomed more than 120 delegates from a worldwide audience. During the Summit, we had the opportunity to meet professionals, students, physicians, and other stakeholders from the Region with diverse perspectives on food, agriculture, health, and nutrition.

As a post-summit event, we held the first edition of the Global Youth Essay Competition in collaboration with St Leonards School. On this occasion, we welcomed 21 young students and leaders (ages 13 to 19) from 4 countries. This opportunity highlighted the significant role the education ecosystem plays in Scotland, with an international breadth that constantly attracts thousands of students to the area. Furthermore, our initiative demonstrated the immense appeal of the Region and its capacity to foster global connections. This first edition is just the starting point of our initiatives and projects in the education field in Scotland. We intend to hold the second edition of the Global Youth Essay Competition at St Andrews University, with the involvement of the finalists from last year's edition and higher education students in the area.

Our activities, projects and initiatives in Scotland date back to March 2019, when on 27th March 2019, we organised and held a workshop at the International Forum on Quality & Safety in Healthcare - 'Food, fluid and nutritional care as key drivers to improve healthcare outcomes: The Nutrition Education policy for Healthcare Practice Training Package' in Glasgow, Scotland.

The Mobile Teaching Kitchen international (MTKi) held in November 2023, a culinary nutrition education workshop in Dundee, Scotland, in partnership with the Dundee and Angus College, where participants learned about different food groups, how to read food labels, and how to make healthy swaps in the recipes and the nutrient profiles for each dish. This workshop led to the development of the first 'preceptors' group within the UK. These preceptors would work with nutrition and culinary experts from the UK MTK team to subsequently train members of the public to become potential UK MTK champions.
