NNEdPro Joins Groundbreaking Smily Conference to Advance One Health and Sustainable Development Goals

On 25th March 2024, Professor Sumantra Ray, representing NNEdPro Global Institute for Food, Nutrition and Health, took part in the groundbreaking Smily Conference, a pivotal event aimed at addressing food and nutrition security needs within biodiversity and climate resilience initiatives. The conference, hosted by the renowned environmentalist Jadav Payeng, also known as the 'Forest Man of India,' sought to explore innovative approaches to tackle global challenges.

 

NNEdPro's participation in the Smily Conference underscores its commitment to advancing nutrition education and promoting sustainable development goals. The institute was invited to collaborate with the Smily Academy, a novel Italian NGO led by Claudia Laricchia, to assess food and nutrition security needs within their initiative.

 

The partnership between NNEdPro and the Smily Academy is poised to have a transformative impact on One Health and indigenous factors, with a particular focus on empowering eco-entrepreneurs and promoting sustainable development goals. Through this collaboration, both organisations aim to leverage their expertise and resources to address pressing global challenges related to food security, nutrition, and environmental sustainability.

NNEdPro Hosts 2nd Successful UK MTK Culinary Nutrition Education Session at the Dundee & Angus College


On 27th March 2024, we hosted our second Culinary Nutrition Education session at Dundee and Angus College in the UK. The Mobile Teaching Kitchen (MTK) was the vibrant hub of culinary exploration, igniting passion for cooking and advancing nutrition education among enthusiastic participants. With the invaluable support of EIT Food, this immersive experience delved into the rich culinary heritage of Cilento, Italy, under the expert guidance of special guest Sofia Cavalleri from Ristolab.

 

The session was a celebration of Mediterranean cuisine, with a focus on crafting sustainable and nutritious dishes that embody the essence of the region's culinary traditions. Despite the culinary complexities, each plate prepared during the session was a testament to simplicity, affordability, and above all, taste.

 

What made this session truly remarkable was not just the delicious Mediterranean dishes prepared but also their accessibility. With each plate costing just £6, participants were treated to a culinary journey that didn't break the bank.

 

At the heart of the menu were recipes inspired by the heritage of Cilento, carefully curated to reflect the principles of the Sustainable Mediterranean Diet Menu offered by Ristolab. This diet, rooted in the pioneering research of Ancel Keys, emphasises the consumption of plant-based foods, abundant fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and heart-healthy olive oil.


More than just a cooking class, the session was a journey through time, tracing back to the roots of Cilento's culinary traditions. By preserving and passing on indigenous ancient recipes, Ristolab pays homage to the traditional ecological knowledge of this Italian region.

 

With an emphasis on using fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients, each dish served during the session embodied the essence of longevity and well-being. From vibrant salads bursting with flavour to hearty pasta dishes infused with the richness of olive oil, every bite offered a taste of the Mediterranean lifestyle.

 

As the session came to a close, participants left with not only full stomachs but also a newfound appreciation for the intersection of food, culture, and health. With the promise of more cooking adventures on the horizon, the Mobile Teaching Kitchen continues to inspire and empower individuals to embrace a healthier way of eating, one delicious meal at a time.
