The NNEdPro Global Institute for Food, Nutrition and Health has partnered with Dundee & Angus College, with support from EIT Food, to provide hands-on experiences and increase practical culinary skills and nutrition knowledge for two cohorts of marginalised communities in the Dundee & Angus region. The partnership has developed practical workshops that not only enhance participants' understanding of the role of nutrition in health and wellbeing but also provide them with industry experience.

Following a successful workshop trial in November 2023, Dundee & Angus College and NNEdPro Global Institute have collaborated to co-create academic programmes, courses, and training modules. These programmes, leveraging the expertise of both institutions, offer students a comprehensive interdisciplinary approach to nutrition education, preparing them for success in the rapidly evolving industry.

The NNEdPro Mobile Teaching Kitchen International (MTKi) Initiative is an educational tool that teaches culinary and microenterprise skills to vulnerable community members, aiming to enhance nutrition education and address food insecurity and malnutrition. The initiative seeks to improve diet and health outcomes in marginalised communities with diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. It is supported by EIT Food, co-funded by the European Union. Please click here to learn more about the MTKi Initiative in the UK.

“This is an exciting opportunity for our students and people in the local community to gain an understanding of the culinary arts and inspire positive changes into the world of nutrition through practical experiences. This collaboration represents our commitment to empowering individuals with the knowledge and practical skills they need for success in industry.”

- Kichelle Williams-Robinson, Head of Curriculum and Quality at Dundee and Angus College

“We are thrilled to have this innovative partnership with Dundee and Angus College. Together we will enhance nutrition education and culinary skills in a collaborative approach that will bring unique opportunities, access to evidence informed educational materials, and the development of joint academic programmes.”

- Prof Sumantra (Shumone) Ray, NNEdPr Global Institute for Food, Nutrition, and Health

An upcoming event, the Dundee Food Festival, which takes place in Dundee City Square, the MTKi Initiative will have a stall showcasing locally sourced, nutritious meal options for purchase. Through interactive sessions, attendees will learn about the importance of sustainable food choices. This initiative aligns with the festival's themes of Eat, Drink, Play, and Think, enriching the overall experience while promoting wellness.
